Efects of Sex Hormones on Desoxyribonucleic Acid Metabolism of some Bone Tissues from Gonadectomized Adult Mice using Radioautography and Tritiated Thymidine

Abstract
1. The effects of the sex hormones, namely, Testosterone propionate for the male and Estradiol 17-beta benzoate for the female, on the cell renewal system of the cells found in the femurs and vertebrae from gonadectomized and treated with the hormones after the gonadectomy on both adult male and female mice were studied by means of radioautography using tritiated thymidine.
2. None of the labeling nuclei of any bone cells was found among the cells observed in present study.
3. Negligible effect of the estradiol 17-beta benzoate on the cell renewal system of the osteoblasts and osteoclasts from the female mice was found.
4. A significant promotion on the cell renewal rates of both osteoblasts and osteoclasts of the vertebrae in the male was resulted, while, only the osteoclasts showed the improved cell renewal rate without concomitant increment of that of the osteoblasts of the same bones.
5. The effects of the castration on the vertebra from the adult male mice were the increment of the . cell renewal rates of the osteoblasts without concomitant promotion of the osteoclasts in same bones.
